2015: WHAT EVEN HAPPENED THERE? The amount of change and growth and L E A R N I N G that went on over the last 365 aren't something I want to gloss over, but I am going to sum it up as quickly as possible: in both work + life, I took some leaps, and – I don't know, is it cliche to be like AND I'M AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT HUMAN BEING THAN I WAS ONE YEAR AGO TODAY? I turned 35; career-wise I dug into what felt like a very natural and gentle turn on a terrifyingly brain-scrambling rollercoaster; I bleached my hair. Last-Year-Me would dig New-Year-Me but I wonder how much they'd have in common (besides a still-unquenchable thirst for sweatpants and a sensible shoe).
I've never worked more, or harder, than I did in 2015, but I also spent a lot of time thinking about how to work smarter. It was the first year I had employees, and the first year of learning how to delegate and trust and be organized in a way that ideally wouldn't make someone else feel like they were taking crazy pills. It was the first year I responded to every idea I had with "think bigger." It was a year of E D U C A T I O N , re: taxes and contracts and DBAs and blah blah blah. But mostly – and most importantly – it was a year that I spent learning, over and over and over again, the value and the importance and the absolute necessity of c o m m u n i t y . Of resource-sharing and experience-sharing; of advocacy and of conversation.
Also, I got a new phone!
re: gentle turns/brain-scrambling rollercoasters, I'm thrilled to be putting the bulk of my content-creation-energies into one place for 2016, and that's over at www.aCreativeDC.com. Panda Head Blog started as the launchpad for the online portion of the A Creative DC project, and I've talked before about the relief of getting to redefine this blog + this brand once A Creative DC outpaced it by miles. As ever (seriously, AS EVER: I'm rolling into 2016 with ten years of Panda Head Blog behind me), this is a space I'll continue to use to show MY DC, and my personal lifestyle.
There's a larger conversation about the redefinition of BLOG and BLOGGING in the age of social media that I'm not quite sure if I want to even start, but suffice it to say that my personal perspective also lives over on Instagram, Twitter, and FB, and I'll be feeding those channels over the course of this year, too. Last thing (VANNA WHITE HAND-FLOURISH): you'll be able check out the MIND MALL tab at top for recs and current obsessions, re: stuff. Because baby gotta eat.
AND SO. I hope you're all firmly ensconced in this brand new year; I've spent the last week tying up loose ends from 2015 and doing what I'm going to deem a mildly effective job of keeping up with the racehorse that 2016 is shaping up to be. In between? A few ~ZEN~ moments, including one of the six hundred meals I ate at Halsa this week (so conveniently located one block over from my studio), a coffee stop at Dolcezza, and f l o w e r s , which I bought for myself as reward for having cleaned the living room. HI-FIVES.
